We aim to provide good quality, affordable after school and holiday care:
• putting the care and safety of the child first
• in an atmosphere that differs from school, in the range of recreational and relaxing activities offered
• as a service that supports the needs of the whole family
We will do this through:
• employing staff who have relevant qualifications and experience
• acting as a best-practice employer in our management and training of staff
• planning and offering a wide range of activities/ play experiences, indoors and outdoors
• encouraging children to choose a variety of activities/ play experiences, appropriate to their age
• establishing a clear contract, and good communication, with parents
• involving parents in managing the scheme
SASCS operates with a staff team of 12 staff every day, including the management team, 4 full time Play Workers and a further 5 Part Time Play Workers daily. All of SASCS staff team complete mandatory training in line with our regulatory body’s requirements. This includes child protection, basic first aid, infection prevention and control, hand washing, food hygiene, fire safety, Manual Handling, Adult Protection, advanced child protection, data protection, equality and diversity, health and safety, GDPR and trauma awareness. Staff also complete individualised training to meet the Skills and Knowledge Framework, this relates to their stage of development within their role at SASCS.
SASCS operates as a charity. This means we retain a charity ethos where our priorities are solely the care and welfare of our children – we are not driven by the need to make profits.
As a charity we require a group of Trustees – known as the Management Committee. The Management Committee supports the SASCS team with the overall management of the service which includes agreeing the long-term priorities and development of the service, the annual setting of fees and supporting senior staff.
MC members are volunteers who carry out the role in their own time. The commitment involved is not onerous - we meet every 8 weeks or so, with some occasional ad hoc activity in between. In return for this you get to work with some amazing people in a fun and very rewarding role.
The MC is always looking for new volunteers so if you want to join us or simply find out more about what's involved then please contact us, we'd love to hear from you.
Being part of SASCS and the wider Sciennes community is very special. We love it and we're sure you will too!
